I am researching the windows of my parish and the bottom of one of the windows is signed J. Morgan & Sons, NY.

Romanesque Revival in style, Sacred Heart Church was designed by Patrick Charles Keely (1816-1896). The corner stone was laid in 1884 and the church was dedicated in 1889 by Most Rev. Michael S. O’Farrell, first bishop of Trenton.

Is anyone familiar with this studio? I can't seem to find any info about it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The book, Stained Glass in Catholic Philadelphia, has a long discussing of the Morgan stained glass firm which was in business 1847-1920 (father, sons and grandsons?).  In a nutshell, they were NY based and according to Jean Farnsworth, the preferred firm for architect Patrick Keeley who designed over 600 Catholic churches in NY, Buffalo, Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, Providence, Newark, Halifax, Hartford, etc.  Morgan was instrumental in the US tariff situation for higher taxes on imported stained glass.  He probably used German-trained glass painters.

Thanks Barbara for the information. I will look up the book "Stained Glass in Catholic Philadelphia" at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. My friend is there and I remember him telling me about the book a few weeks ago, but haven't gotten around to taking it out. Once again, thanks.
