Hello:
I would like to introduce my wife (Andrea Benner Disbro) and myself as new members to the American Glass Guild.  I am a retired art professor in ceramics and sculpture and my wife is retired from part-time college art instruction in painting, drawing and design.  Both of us continue activity in the studio.  The AGG was introduced to us by following the work of Debora Coombs.
I’ve always been interested in stained glass both from its structural relationship to ceramics and also as a major medium in the medieval art history courses I taught.  But only in the last two years have I had the time to work in stained glass and develop a style of work that permits my three-dimensional porcelain figures to be housed inside a stained glass structure.  I’m now completing my eighth piece and I need to gain experience in glass painting as I see this as becoming much more important in my work.
Most of my work now deals with themes of elder tales – those stories gathered from all cultures and times that are concerned with developing wisdom and maturity in progressing through life.  I’ve been greatly influenced by the books of Dr. Allan B. Chinen on elder tales and their symbolism.
Both Andrea and I are looking forward to the August conference of AGG where we will be taking workshops and enjoying learning new media.  Then we will return to our studio and practice what we learned; Andrea easily (and very messily!) creating new images while I work hard (but neatly!) to create images that hope to satisfy my harshest critic, my wife.  We’ve been married forty-five years and shared the same studio for nine years.  It’s not easy being married to an artist and as our three grown children will say it’s not easy having two artists for parents.  (Many stories there!)
Our work can be viewed at:

Welcome to the Glass Guild William and Andrea. I look forward to reviewing your website more. I took a quick peak and I really like the use of sculpture inside your glass pieces. Very expressive. Great use of line and pattern on your glasswork. Don't hesitate to ask questions. There are a lot of really knowledgeable and approachable people in the Guild that are always willing to help. Again Welcome aboard and talk to you soon.
