Hi,

About 6 months ago, Mapmuse.com began a project- the interactive mapping of glassblowing studios across the US. We initially researched and populated these maps ourselves, with the idea in mind that glassblowing enthusiasts would subsequently add to, and enhance, the information we provided. We mapped each glassblowing studio, and provided space for a written description, photo, and link to a website. Since this project was started, the public has made hundreds of additions and enhancements to these maps. We now have one of the most comprehensive databases of glassblowing studios in the US. If you were one of our contributors, we’d like to thank you for your help!

I’m writing today to ask that if you know of any glassblowing studios that have opened or closed in the last 6 months, that you make those changes to the maps. Also, please feel free to add any glassblowing studios that we are still missing.

If you own or manage a glassblowing studio, we also have an option of a premium listing at $10/ year. This listing has all of the features of the free listing, as well as an enhanced map presence, a text link beneath the map, and more photos. If you have an art glass related website, you can post a link in our Recommended Links section (also $10/ year). You can read about these options, and make changes, through easy to use links on the site- if you have any problems, see http://find.mapmuse.com/re1/mmFAQ.htm#A4

The link to the Glassblowing studios map is:
http://find.mapmuse.com/interest/blown_glass

If you are not familiar with MapMuse.com, we are a highly trafficked mapping website with an Alexa traffic rating of approximately 17,000 in the world. MapMuse’s goal is to help people find places related to their interests. MapMuse continues to add new topics of interest each week. If you do glasswork other than blown glass and you would like to see your specialty mapped, you can suggest the interest on the MapMuse site, and there is a good chance it will be addressed.

Lastly, if you have a related blog, newsletter, or website, a link or a mention would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Cindy Jett

Hello,

Do you have any information about an late 19th century, early 20th century stained glass artist named Thomas A. Cubit. He was from Philadelphia but I believe he also worked in Toledo, OH. He apprenticed under Louis C. Tiffany and his work may have been at some of the cathedrals in Philadelphia. Any information would be helpful. Thank you for your time.

Isabelle,

I have never heard of Thomas Cubit but I do have photographs of most of the work in Philadelphia Cathedrals and many of the city's churches. However there is very little opalescent glass in Philadelphia's Roman Catholic Cathedral and what is there I have documented to Gorham. I believe all the opalescent glass in the Episcopal Cahtedral is documented to Tiffany. (I am presuming, but perhaps incorrectly, Cubit worked in opalescent glass since you noted Tiffany.) If you can send me more specifics perhaps I can help.

Hello,

Please forward to the appropriate person at your organization.

I have been asked by a Father at my church to locate a suitable
stained glass designer/painter for a substantial commission.  The
Father is quite knowledgeable and particular regarding the level of
skill required for this project.  This is for a large church in the
U.S. . The project is funded and is scheduled for construction within
the next two years, The selection of an artist will likely be within
the next 6 months with the design process to begin shortly thereafter.
He is interested in finding a painter capable of producing windows in
the same style and quality of the 'Munich' style of the Mayer, Zettler
studios of the 19th and 20th century. We have a selected a capable
studio here to provide the contracting, fabrication, framing, and
installation of the windows, however finding a studio who employs a
painter/designer with the level of skill required to replicate the
Munich style windows has been difficult. He has collected portfolios
from some of the larger studios in the US, and he still feels their
level of detail and skill necessary to capture the essence of this
style falls somewhat short. This will give you an idea of the level of
skill the Father is hoping for.

There will be 13 to18 large gothic windows.  The themes have been
selected.  We would be looking for an artist or studio capable of
providing the design and painting of the glass, while partnering with
our studio who will provide the contracting, fabrication, framing, and
installation of the windows.

I would very much appreciate your help with this matter. If you are
aware of someone who may be capable of recreating this style of
painting, Could you please provide their contact information, a web
link to their work, or examples of their work. I would prefer they not
contact me prior to my viewing their work. Any information you can
provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Tracy Wallach

Hi, I work for http://www.UltraGlas.com in Los Angeles. I’m trying to find bottle glass for a client. It's glass that appears like slices of bottle bottoms that are side by side that make up the sheet of glass. Would you have any idea where we could find a fabricator of such glass?

Respectfully yours,

Hello,
I am interested in learning more about stained glass art.  I live in Augusta GA and was wondering if/where the closest studio/facility which could/would be willing to tolerate me.  I don't take up much space but do ask alot of questions.
Appreciate your help in advance.
