From Nov 2011 to Feb 2012 I taught wintersession at Bryn Athyn college. Eight students ( a mix of Freshmen, Sophomores & Juniors) participated in the class. None had ever worked with glass before. Only 2 had prior art training. Over the 11 week semester we covered glass cutting, leading, soldering, fusing, painting and silver staining. The students completed a series of panels during the class ranging from simple exercises in leaded glass construction to reproductions of silver stained panels based on renaissance examples. The final project was a panel of the students’ own design which had to include a copy of a medieval head and a self portrait. The solutions to this challenge can be seen below.
Opportunities to participate in an abridged version of this class are available during Bryn Athyn College’s Sacred Arts Summer Institute. Four-day intensive sessions will be offered June 13-16, June 27-30, and July 11-14. Check out the Bryn Athyn College website http://brynathyn2.reachlocal.net/academics/sacredarts
