The American Glass Guild is delighted to announce the opening of its third juried show of contemporary stained glass - American Glass Now: 2014 - at the Glencairn Museum in Bryn Athyn, PA.  The show will run from April 26th - June 29th, with a closing reception and awards ceremony on Friday, June 27th from 6:30-7:30 during the ninth annual conference.

Congratulations to artists Don Burt, Joseph Cavalieri, Marie Foucault-Phipps, Saara Gallin, Nancy Gong, Mary Clerkin Higgins, Ann Therese Kelly, Barbara Krueger, J. Kenneth Leap, Linda Lichtman, Ellen Mandelbaum, Sean Merchant, Hallie Richards Monroe, Nancy Nicholson, Rick Prigg, Patrice Schelkun, Amy Valuck, and Sasha Zhitneva.

Our thanks go to the jury - Virginia Raguin (Professor of Art History at College of the Holy Cross) and Judith Schaechter (Artist and Educator at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA Academy of the Arts, and the NY Academy of the Arts).

For the first time the AGG will present the American Glass Guild AGNX Awards for Excellence in the Art of Stained Glass.  The Jury will award from one to three evenly weighted (i.e. non-ranked) awards.  The number presented may vary each year at the discretion of the Jury according to the strength of the submissions, with a maximum of three in any given year.

The jurors will consider as criteria: creative use of materials, original expression, aesthetic impact, clarity of narrative, and complexity of execution and will deliver a short assessment reflecting on the criteria for each winner.

Raguin and Schaechter will discuss and critique the works in the show during a special presentation at Glencairn Museum on Friday evening, June 27, when the AGNX Awards will be presented by the jury.  The AGG Conference Keynote Address by artist Narcissus Quagliata will follow.  Both events are free and open to the public.

American Glass Now is intended to give artists an opportunity to experiment, show their skills, be ambitious, have a dialogue with fellow artists, and show the public what stained glass can be.  As in the past, a Blurb Book will be available documenting the work in the exhibition.  Details to follow.
