Hello all,
When doing an archival rubbing, is it acceptable to tape two sheets of Rag Vellum together? If so, what kind of tape is acceptable (acid free masking,or transparent, single or double sided?) ? Where can you purchase this tape?
Also, does anyone have a source for 3/4" 3M #471 conservation tape? All of my suppliers will only sell me a case of 72 rolls. I really doubt that I will need that much all at once and I don't want to purchase too much and have it go bad before i ever get to use it.
Thank you for the help,
Adam Frazee

Hi Adam,
I have had to tape vellum paper together in the past due to the size of a panel. I'm not crazy about doing it, but sometimes you have no choice.
You can find archival clear tape at University Products (800) 628-1912 or http://www.universityproducts.com It's called "Polyester transparent tape" 3M # 850
Conservation Tape:
If you only need a few rolls of 3M #471 vynal tape, "Grainger" has it (http://www.grainger.com) Stock #1F177 36 yards per roll @ approx. $ 9.50 per roll.
I buy it from a place in NJ by the box. If you can't get it from Grainger, let me know and I will send you some.
Good luck,
Roberto

Thanks Roberto, I'll check those leads out tommorow. I checked Grainger tonight and it appears that they've discontinued that item but they offer an equivelent. I found some acid free 3M scotch brand tape. Its used for scrap booking. It says its photo safe and acid free. I'll have to do more research tommorow.
